A unique island paradise
surrounded by sparkling, turquoise water and breathtaking views in all
directions. Dangar Island rises gently from Bradleys Beach to the
south and south east then becomes steeper as you move to the north and
north west where there are excellent deepwater anchorages. With no
private cars to disturb the 'sounds of silence', Dangar Island is a
haven of peace and tranquility with 27 known bird species plus a variety
of other native fauna and flora. The island is steeped in history
from the days of Governor Phillip when it was known as Mullet
Island. It was acquired by Henry Dangar in 1864 as a country estate and following
his death in 1917 was sub-divided into residential allotments and named
Dangar Island. On the island you will find a general store/alfresco cafe, community hall, bowling club and childrens playground as well as the delightful sandy area of Bradleys Beach. Services include town water, electricity, telephone, garbage removal, water taxis and mail delivery. There is a regular passenger ferry 7 days a week from Brooklyn and the Hawkesbury River railway station approximately 6 minutes away. It is then approximately 60 minutes by car or train to Sydney CBD. |
